Alessi Mirror Polished Stainless Steel Crushed Steel Bowl

This stunning Alessi piece is a study of the softening of the rigid nature of steel with a touch of irregularity and imperfection. The imperfection is in itself perfection!
 
Designed by Lluis Clotet, who is especially active in architecture but who has also made a number of interesting product designs, was fascinated by the playful crumpling of a tray in silver paper. He has reproduced the effect in a successful mini-series of trays and baskets, in which the crumpled edge is achieved using a complex technique of cold-pressing in a single operation.
