JUNE IS BUSTIN' OUT ALL OVER

JUNE IS BUSTIN’ OUT ALL OVER……………….

As the wonderful song from Carousel goes “June is bustin’ out all over” and it sure is!

The lyrics from the first verse acquire a heightened level of poignancy too in the current times…..

“March went out like a lion A whippin' up the water in the bay Then April cried and stepped aside And along come pretty little May! May was full of promises But she didn't keep 'em quickly enough for some And a crowd of doubtin' Thomases Was predictin' that the summer'd never come”

But it has and there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Wallpapers and fabrics from all the main design houses continue to promote flora as a major influence in interior design with lush and abundant florals, jungle and nature prints, jacquards and papers.

Dare to be different and play with scale and colour. Just because a room is small doesn’t mean that it cannot take a bold and oversized pattern. A perfect example of this working to best effect is the downstairs bathroom. Give your guests a surprise when they use the facilities! It is a way of bringing a smile to the face in often one of the most visited and used rooms in the house. It is also a great way of testing out a design concept on a small and controlled way. As the room is small it is cost effective too!

Similarly, the use of bold fabrics or colour on an occasional chair is a great way of adding a designer punch to a room. For most people using a strong pattern or print on an investment piece of furniture, such as a sofa, is a no-no. Tastes change so I would always recommend a neutral palette. However, a bold statement chair, cushion or window treatment is a great way to go for dramatic effect.

To quote Richard Rogers again

“Fresh and alive and gay and young June is a love song, sweetly sung……..”

Enjoy!
